About this project

AUTORA VAZ is a textile research project that started in Montevideo, Uruguay in 2022. It tries to answer the question of which products and ways of working are meaningful and reasonable in our present place and moment.  We offer garments created from a sense of identity and awareness that are meant to start a conversation and offer necessary reflections. It is a  laboratory for techniques, materials and production systems in a permanent journey between art and fashion.

Antispeciesist

All of the materials employed in the making of our garments are vegan, without  exception. We experiment with biomaterials and other natural alternatives to animal products.

Biodegradable

Our pieces are entirely biodegradable. We use natural and organic fabrics and choose constructive solutions that align with our principles, such as corozo  buttons, latex and cotton elastic or fabric stripes to tie instead of zippers, brooches or buckles. The garments are naturally dyed one by one in our studio.

Regenerative

We prefer fibres with minimum environmental impact that nurture the soil such as hemp, or some that are produced responsibly, such as EcoveroTM, that is crafted with wood from renewable forests. We are constantly looking for new materials and suppliers, and we want to come closer each time to local resources and initiatives.

We value the knowledge behind garment making and collaborate with work  systems that foster the conservation of crafts and social regeneration. We look for fabrics that are woven under fair labour conditions. Our pieces are made by hand by local seamstresses working autonomously.

Welcome!
